I’m a pretty regular reader of The Other Juliette. She’s sarcastic and hilarious. Pretty much the kind of girl I’d want to be friends with in real life.
A few days ago, she hosted a link up called “The Honey Roast” where, instead of focusing on our flaws, we focus on the good things about ourselves. Which for me is kind of hard because I’m the worst self-talker ever. I’m not even that great at taking compliments because my inner voice will just butt its big ass nose where it doesn’t belong and ruin the whole damn thing. Like Juliette, I can be kind of a “snarky jerk” especially when it comes to compliments.
And since we could all use a little positive self-talk, here it goes:
|I say what I mean and mean what I say. You don’t ever have to ask me, “what did you mean by…” No. I chose those words specifically for the purpose of expressing my intention/thought/idea/whatever. I promise. No need for reading between the lines with this girl!
|I’m a family kinda girl. I love them and they love me. And I’d rather spend time with my family than out anywhere else.
|I can build you a fence, use a tractor, and run cattle. I can also fix most of my own household maintenance issues, but I refuse to work on my own car.
|I can run for 5 whole miles. This is a huge accomplishment for someone who literally could not run for 2 whole minutes in January.
|I am endearingly awkward (usually). Sometimes I’m just regular awkward.
|I read. A LOT. I read for school, I read for fun, I read for everything. I really value libraries.
|I am known for writing thank you notes. BECAUSE THEY’RE IMPORTANT.
|I wouldn’t hate it if I had a Harry Potter-ish themed wedding (read: I would really, really love it. Like, really)
|I’m a cheap date. The best ones I’ve ever been on have been mostly free. (Shoutout to the midnight tour of LSU AND getting us in to see abandoned Huey Long Fieldhouse!)
|I really love my nose. Mainly because there are only two like it: mine and Mama Nancy’s. Although mine has a freckle.
Now go get out there and say some nice things to yourself! And if you’re struggling through finals (like I am)…uh…may the odds be ever in your favor.
